How do you ensure the health, well-being and productivity of a building’s occupants whilst also focusing on its energy performance?

Controlling light and heat while preserving natural resources is a fundamental human need - however, the world we live in is changing and we now spend over 90% of our time indoors, so ensuring this essential need is being met through our indoor spaces is vital.

Explore our projects

Intelligently managing daylight for increased comfort, well-being and sustainability.

Whether new build or a renovation, considering the effective use of daylight is essential when undertaking your building project. There are primary requirements and challenges to be addressed and effectively managing daylight plays a role in each of them.

Health, welfare and well-being of the building occupants
Limiting energy consumption
• Sustainability
• Connectivity and being as future-proof as possible

Our intelligent solutions for connected and automated shading help you meet both the demanding requirement for energy efficiency and improve the comfort and well-being of building occupants.

By limiting the use of artificial lighting, heating and air conditioning, you focus on optimizing your building’s energy efficiency, and therefore sustainability. And for occupants, personal controls give the freedom to easily manage the levels of natural light in their environment; minimising glare, modulating heat and ensuring comfort and privacy.

The role of daylight in energy consumption

The average outside temperature is increasing and there is a real risk of our buildings overheating - creating greener, more efficient buildings is now a priority.

Managing daylight effectively can play an important role when it comes to the lighting, heating and cooling of our buildings and can save up to 15-20% of a building’s total energy consumption.

Satisfying the first step of the Trias Energetica, dynamic solar shading can drastically reduce the need for active cooling and, by optimizing daylight, also impacts on the use of artificial light required.

The EPBD (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive) recommends dynamic solar shading as an energy efficient solution.

The Human Factor

Daylight for                          health, welfare                    and well-being

Light, ventilation, temperature and humidity determine our welfare and well-being. Because our bodies use natural light in the same way as water and food, getting sufficient quantities of the full spectrum of light is essential for our metabolic processes.

The amount of light we have access to has a major influence on temperature regulation and therefore our thermal comfort (ideally between 18 to 25⁰c). Daylight also provides visual comfort – essential for visibility when performing certain tasks and activities.

Automated and intelligently controlled solar shading means natural light is optimized, you preserve the full spectrum of daylight and diffuse light as required.

Highlights

  • Somfy 14834
    New KNX weather station

Take advantage of our latest technological innovation. The KNX weather station can control glare and solar radiation (infrared), while protecting building facades with its integrated rain, temperature, wind and humidity sensors.

Somfy's new KNX weather station enables automated control of facades in up to eight different zones, according to different meteorological factors such as rain, temperature and wind. The weather station optimises occupant comfort thanks to its 4 lux sensors oriented N/S/E/W. Its central radiation sensor will also allow building energy requirements to be met (for example: entry of sunlight in winter and protection from overheating in summer).
The weather station adapts to the needs of users who wish to override a local or automatic control, for example. In all cases, the system's security commands take priority. The subtle design of the intelligent measuring station allows it to fit into any type of building, and can be mounted discreetly on the roof or on the facade.

    Together responsible: stay safe

Our top priority is the health of our customers and employees, so we inform you that SOMFY has taken the decision to temporarily suspend the activity of some of its production and logistics sites in order to take the time necessary to strengthen the barrier measures already in place and ensure that SOMFY’s employees have a secure working environment.

In this exceptional context related to the Covid-19 epidemic, we reserve the possibility of suspending the delivery of your order, without notice and without compensation, if its execution were to be delayed or made particularly difficult or expensive in view of, among other things, containment measures preventing the continuity of our activities, the cessation or limitation of the means of transport, the closure or suspension of our activities. factories or those of our partners.

As the situation evolves rapidly, our customer services will stay tuned during this period and will come back to you as much as necessary to inform you of these developments.

The safety of all and the continuity of our commitments to our customers are the core priorities of Somfy Group.

New functions for the animeo IB+ TouchBuco!

New functions are now available in the IB+ TouchBuco:

    • New comfort mode (to improve occupants comfort: in case no energy is required, the new comfort mode disabled all the energy functions)
    • Slats open after 10% time of delay (When the sun disappears, the blinds go up after a configurable time. This generate a black period where the users could be unhappy. The “Open slats after 10% of delay” allows to let enter the building a bit of natural light waiting the blinds go completely up.
    • And more functions to discover...

The IB+ TouchBuco is also compatible with louvers (with an angle from -90° to +90°).

This guidebook is the second edition of the technical document published in 2012 by the European Solar Shading Organisation.

It is intended to give the technical information needed to evaluate the performance of solar shading. It contains the basic principles required to understand the physical properties involved in the radiation transmission.
It highlights the standardised calculation methods that are used to evaluate the thermal, solar and visual characteristics of blinds and shutters.
